You're Fired...Kind Of

I found out on Wednesday morning that my position has been eliminated. I still have a job but in a completely different group. I'm not trained in this new area, but (supposedly) that doesn't matter to my new bosses. I'll be moving back to my old building and will have to start wearing suits again. I'll even be on the same floor. So, essentially, this job will take me back to where I started.

Yes, it is better than being fired. I just didn't want to make a change right now. I'll be optimistic, but I don't really have a choice and will have to go with the flow. The group is supposed to be "young," so maybe I'll actually have someone to talk to at work.

Fashion at the SAG Awards

Everyone looked great at the SAG Awards last night. The celebrities are more glamorous than in years past. It seems that there are less vintage dresses and more new designers. Some designers are mainstays, but many new designers are getting to step up to the big stage.

My top 4 were Anne Hathaway (in Azzaro), Jenna Fischer (in Pamella Roland), Kyra Sedgewick (in vintage Chanel), and Kate Winslet (in Narciso Rodriguez). What girl wouldn't want to wear vintage Chanel?!?

The Best Show on Television

The Closer is returning with a new episode tonight. Will Detective Sanchez live, and will Brenda and Fritz get married? I am so psyched!! (8pm on TNT)

Did we inaugurate Obama as our president yesterday? There's not enough coverage or concerts...

Sorry, Celine

Celine Dion did a show last night in town...and I wasn't there. Sorry, Celine, I hope you weren't too disappointed. I'm going to "out" myself and admit to being a huge Celine fan.

I've seen her once before. I saw her in Vegas, and I'll never forget it. It was an amazing show, and she has one of the best voices of all time. Maybe it's a cliche for a woman to be a Celine fan. The thing is that I don't care. She's awesome; one of the most awesome people on the planet.

Yes, she's cheesy. But that is part of her charm. I don't think she has any idea how cheesy she is. It's totally authentic...and FABULOUS!

Farewell President Bush

I can't believe that President Bush will no longer be our president.

Thank you, President Bush:
* for showing grace despite being constantly criticized by other politicians, the press, and the liberals
* for being appreciative of your time in office and having the chance to serve the country
* for pronouncing America with a southern accent
* for getting us through 9/11
* for keeping us safe for the last 7 years
* for having faith
* for marrying Laura Bush and giving us a perfect First Lady
* for choosing Condoleeza Rice
* for having a sense of humor

My Faves at the Golden Globes

I love watching the award shows for the red carpet fashion. Elizabeth Banks and Kyra Sedgewick were my favorite looks of the night.

(L to R) J. Mendel and Oscar de la Renta

Not only does Kyra Sedgewick play Brenda Lee Johnson on the best show on television (The Closer), she always looks great on the red carpet. It's a crime that she didn't win the Golden Globe for Lead Actress in a TV Drama series.

Maybe I can get Harry Winston to loan me some jewelry for my wedding... :-)

I Created a Website!

I'm so excited about our wedding website. I had fun putting it together and hope to use it as a good place to post information. As more things are scheduled, I'll update it. There's a link to the right!

Registries

I think I've finally finished my wedding registries. We decided to go with Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Belk. I've heard bad things about Target's return policies, but Targets are everywhere. So, how can we not register there? I just didn't add many things to the list.

It was important for me to make sure I had a wide range of prices. When I would attend weddings while still in college, I would get frustrated with expensive registries. How could I buy a $100 knife set? I understand now that sometimes a couple can't help it. Some things just cost that much!

I also didn't want to be presumptuous and think that my guests want to buy me expensive things. I'm also a pretty thrifty shopper. (TJMaxx is the best!) So, it was a little frustrating! I don't want anyone to think I expect to receive everything on my registry. I also have the uncanny ability to zone in on the most expensive item in a group. Jealous? Well, you shouldn't be!

One positive is that I can add to my resume the new talent of using those scanner guns. I'm a pro now! I also got asked several times if I worked in the store. I always responded politely that I didn't, because that was how I was raised. But, I really wanted to be a smart alec. Um, yeah, I look like an employee with a purse on my shoulder, wearing jeans, and no name tag. People can be so clueless!
